Invar 36 is a nickel-iron,low expansion,alloy containing 36% nickel.It maintains nearly constant dimensions over the range of normal atmospheric temperatures,and has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures of about 500.The alloy also retains good strength and thoughness at cryogenic temperatures.
Invar 36 can be hot and cold formed and machined using processes similar to austenitic stainless steels.Invar 36 is weldable using Filler Metal CF36 which is available in bare wire for both the GTAW and GMAW process.
Invar36 use oxyacetylene welding, electric arc welding, welding and other welding methods. Since the coefficient of expansion and chemical composition of the alloy is related should be avoided due to welding causes a change in the alloy composition, it is preferable to use Argon arc welding welding filler metals preferably contains 0.5% to 1.5% titanium, in order to reduce weld porosity and crack.
